Simple Blood Tests for Rapid Concussion Diagnosis

In the world of sports today concussions have become a major topic, especially in football. With the NFL recently starting to understand the reality of the dangers of concussions a lot of money and effort has been put into the study of concussions and how to better treat and help players that get concussions.   The problem today is that current tests to diagnose a player with a concussion rely heavily on the player's subjective reports of symptoms such as blurred vision, dizziness, headache and nausea. One company has found new results from tests done just getting a blood sample. "When someone bangs his or her head, rotational forces can damage long-projecting axons, the fibers that extend from neurons. That can cause proteins to leak out of brain cells, and the tests currently being developed are based on detecting tiny increases in the concentration of these proteins in blood samples." (Simple Blood Tests for Rapid Concussion Diagnosis, Mo Costandi)
Though these tests are still going through studies it could help doctors and trainers more accurately and quickly diagnose a concussion to best help players or just the general public with concussions. At the end of the article is talks about how a concussion is still a concussion and is very serious. The best way to treat concussions is to prevent them at all costs in the first place by using correct technique and by wearing the correct protective equipment. Whether that is wearing a helmet and strapping it up correctly before entering the game or whether its securing your latter before climbing up it.
Why this is interesting to me is because growing up I have always been into action sports, from racing motorcycles to snowboarding to wake boarding. I have always enjoyed the adrenaline rush that accompanies those sports. I have also seen why these sports are dangerous as my dad got life flighted in critical condition due to a concussion and I my self wrecking at a track and not remembering a thing from that day and to come to find out I had a concussion. It would of been interesting to see how much different those two situations would of gone with these new tests.
